Story Notes: The Accordion

Originally appeared in THE WALDEN REVIEW, Spring, 1991. Flash piece, written at JHU.
Reprinted in CAFE IRREAL and EYES LIKE SKY AND COAL AND MOONLIGHT.

Available through AnthologyBuilder and on Fictionaut.

Notes: This was written in Baltimore in late summer of 1990 and was part of my first graduate workshop submission for John Barth’s class. The piece is one of my favorites to read aloud, because if I take a deep breath before launching into the second iteration of the instrument list, I can get a good laugh from the crowd when they catch onto why I took the breath.

Reviews and Accolades:
“I particularly liked The Accordion by Cat Rambo. It’s a short, unlikely, yet unexpectedly sweet love story.” – Nancy Fulda
