Taken while in St. Petersburg, FloridaThe merry but busy month of May is past, huzzah! Rio Hondo was awesome, and had such amazing participants (there are some pics frm it up on Facebook, if you have an account on there).
I’m reworking what I have of THE EASTER BUNNY MUST DIE! based on feedback from the workshop, and currently on track to have it done by the end of the summer. I’m participating in the Clarion West Write-a-thon this summer and will be working on that, as well as finishing up a passel of stories I promised to do, including a novella set in the Fathomless Abyss shared world.
I’m also looking forward to Clarion West and the great reading series that will accompany it, as well as the chance to meet a fine new crop of students. Con-wise, I’ll be at ArmadilloCon, GearCon, and then rounding out the summer with WorldCon.

Here’s a grab-bag of interesting and utterly unrelated links with which to amuse yourself.
A Defense of Casual Fandom from Kelly McCullough in Apex Magazine. A lot of this is stuff I wouldn’t be apologizing for in the first place, but I can see where all the recent “fake geek girl” stuff would make one feel beleaguered. Apex’s most recent issue is just loaded with good stuff.
This Weekend's Classes: Beginnings & Endings (Saturday) and Character Building Workshop (Sunday)
Taken at last year’s con, but I don’t know the gentleman’s name, unfortunately.I’ve still got room in this weekend’s classes, Beginnings & Endings (Saturday morning) and the Character Building workshop (Sunday morning). In the first, I’m going to talk about a number of things, including how to use your beginning to create your ending and vice versa, what your beginning sets up for your reader, what your beginning and ending must contain, how to most effectively use title + beginning + ending, and various other tips and tricks. There will be 3-4 quick writing exercises over the course of the class designed to help you apply what we’re talking about in order to effectively add it to your writerly toolbox.
The Character Building Workshop is familiar to some of you, and I always love teaching it because I come away with at least a couple of wordlumps that end up being part of the current WIP as well as better insight into the characters I’m working with. Come join us if you want a little inspiration for your current project.
